Letter to My Younger Self

Letter to My Younger Self

Dear Vijay,

It is appreciating that you have qualified PET in that tough time and completed BE. You have also made efforts to walk along effectively with others in spite of coming from Hindi medium and not so privileged background. But, many times you were careless and not very much focused on studies and preparing for competitive exams. It is good to enjoy college life but focus on career should not have missed out. Maybe, you were overconfident to get the job in electricity board you wanted but you should have taken the factor of safety and prepared for other exams as well because that is what happened when electricity board have not recruited engineers for years.

It is good that you stayed near home  to help the youth of your area in their career development. Your efforts to start Bundelkhand Institute of Engineering & Technology to facilitate engineering degree to students who could not qualify PET through AMIE is appreciating. Your purchase and practice with FITJEE and Brilliant notes to provide JEE coaching is a very good decision to help them with your very good mathematical foundation. Your efforts to explore possibilities to start other businesses in your area to provide employment opportunities to people there is also appreciating.

Hey, what have you done? You joined Technical Education Department of M.P. Govt. after qualifying MPPSC. Just because it is Government Job? Just because you will be class one gazetted officer? Just because you will have job security? Just because you will be getting regular pay hikes? Just because in case of your death, your dependent family members will get financial benefits? But, what about Your dreams? What about the chains you are tying yourself with? You knew that you will not be satisfied in this job. Still, you have joined it.

Looking back from now, that was a wrong decision. You should not have thought too much about your family responsibilities and keep exploring new opportunities and doing things you loved. You changed yourself completely and became complacent. Working halfheartedly never bring very good results. You devoured yourself in books, nature, etc. You completed masters and then doctorate. You got transfer in different institutions and university. You kept flowing but never got satisfied. Moving in your chosen direction and making continuous efforts for last 30 years would definitely have created a huge impact with mass movement.

My single advice to youth is: Do whatever you believe in, passionate about, and love to do. Do not waste your precious years thinking too much about money, responsibility, job security, future, etc. We get life once. If you are doing what you love to do, you will be giving your 100%. So, positive results are bound to come, no matter what. In long term, few months or years does not matter.
